Gretna ride due to time constraints, logistical problems, or whatever. Rolling hills and a few climbs, with a 25-35 minute break at the approximate half-way point. Sat June 5, 2010 - Mount Gretna-GRAB YOUR BIKE! IT'S ON!
Level B/B-, 14 mph, 74/48 miles. Shady Maple Market in Blue Ball, PA. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Beautiful ride through Lancaster and Lebanon Counties for an al fresco lunch at the historic Jigger Shop in the town of Mount Gretna. Moderately to angrily rolling terrain with a few flat and sustained climbing sections on the way out. After the short climb out of Mount Gretna, the way back will be noticeably easier and will include a brief water stop. Stock up on fresh produce, white food and baked goods after the ride. Anyone wanting to ride a slower pace and/or do fewer miles can opt for a self-guided (after mile 21.3), less hilly 48 mile route which skips Mt. Gretna. We will start PROMPTLY AT 9:15 (no exceptions), so plan your arrival accordingly. If you get ahead or fall behind you will need to be able to follow the cue sheet. If it's your first time doing this ride, please email for directions and parking information by the evening of June 3rd. Bad weather, including extreme heat, will cancel. Level C-, some unpaved, 10-12 mph, 27 miles. Flourtown Shopping Center, 1890 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Behind the McDonald's on Bethlehem Pike between Mill Road and Valley Green Road. Park in the far end of the shopping center. The ride starts on the road, then goes along the scenic and shaded, but unpaved Forbidden Drive (so 28mm or wider tires are recommended) and connects to the paved Wissahickon Trail. We'll stop to watch the race at Ridge Avenue (the end of the "The Fall from the Wall"), along Kelly Drive and again from the BCP Annual Picnic at Lemon Hill. We'll spend an hour or so at the BCP Annual Picnic and then retrace our route for the return home.

Level C+/B-, 12-14 mph, 44.4 miles. Ickesburg, PA, at the intersection of PA 17 and PA 74. The ride leaves at 10:00 am. A far out ride from Rick and Deane - this time even farther out than usual, but well worth the trip. Journey from beautiful Ickesburg, PA, westward along the south side of Tuscarora mountain. The mountain lurks off to the right, mocking. Ride past farms, streams, a quaint red covered bridge, and houses that have lost the battle with entropy. Ride through the newly restored longest covered bridge in Pennsylvania. Swing to the north side of the mountain, as it continues to mock us on the eastward leg. Finally, a brutal assault of Tuscarora ( 3.2 miles, average grade 8% ) followed by a screaming descent down to the car. Over 40 miles of beautiful Pennsylvania scenery, over 4100 feet of delicious climbing. Earn a weeks’ worth of Tastykakes with this ride. Due to the remote location, it is strongly advised that you contact the ride leaders to confirm your participation.

We'll maintain a true B pace and regroup as necessary. A B+/A- ride that averages 18+ mph also leaves from the Italian Fountain at 6:00 PM.

Fri June 18, 2010 - Whole Foods Double-Header (ad-hoc ride)
Level C+/B-, 13-15 mph, 30 miles. Jenkintown Whole Foods, Baederwood Shopping Center, on the Fairway. Far end of parking lot near green fence.. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. If you are able to start the weekend early on Friday afternoon, I'd love your company on this preview ride of a new route, approximately 30-ish miles. Hopefully, this will be a wholly organic experience, riding from the Whole Foods in Jenkintown to the new Whole Foods in Plymouth Meeting, then back to Jenkintown. Cue sheets will be provided. Terrain is mostly flat to rolling, with a few climbs. We will stop to regroup as needed. Please bring money for a food break at the Plymouth Meeting market, at the half-way point.

We'll head out to Valley Forge via rolling scenic roads west of the Schuylkill River and have a flatter return via the SRT and roads east of the river. There is one convenience store food stop, and water will also be available at Valley Forge. Please plan to arrive at 8:15 for a prompt 8:30 departure. Group will split into two with the B- led by Rob and the B/B+ led by Chris. Rain or wet roads cancel the ride. If unsure about the ride status, call the B/B+ ride leader after 7:00 AM the morning of the ride.

Level B, 13-15 mph, 50-60 +/- miles. Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 8:00 am. We had over 40 riders last year. If the group is that large again we will have several leaders at different speed groups. Great roads and a lunch stop at the French Bakery to watch the river go by. This ride is one of my favorites. Sat June 26, 2010 - Delaware Seashore Boat, Bike, Stroll 'n Swim 54
Level C+, 14 mph, 54 miles. Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal, North Cape May, NJ. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. Join us for a full day of touring-style multi-modal miles down in Delaware. Bring a bagged breakfast, a swimsuit, and a touring camp towel. Meet at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry parking lot by the ticketing building at 9:15AM for an 9:30AM ferry ride to Lewes, DE. This takes 85 minutes, so we'll enjoy our bagged breakfasts on-board. We'll ride southwest to Millsboro, turn east to head to Bethany Beach, turn north up lovely Route 1 along the Delaware Seashore State Park, where we will stop for a sit-down lunch break in Rehoboth Beach. We'll digest our well-earned food by kicking off our cycling shoes and walking our bikes up the 1.25 mile stretch along the beach on Rehoboth Flats (this cannot be avoided!). Getting off the beach and back on to our bikes and the road, we'll head up to the beach station in Cape Henlopen State Park for a quick-change into our swimsuits for a 30-minute dip into the Atlantic. A quick rinse and change, and a short 2 miles jaunt returns us to the Ferry, and back to Cape May. Full day of cycling adventure at 54 miles, with boats, bikes, beaches, and bathing. Bring cash for ferry tickets ($10 each way), lunch & snacks; tubes, patches, pumps to be prepared. No cue as we'll follow my pre-programmed GPS route, so let's all stick together. Sun June 27, 2010 - Tomato Pie Ride
Level B- to B, 13-16 mph, 50-60+/- miles. 2 start locations and times: Italian Fountain (7:45 am) and Narbeth Town Park (8:30 am). The ride leaves at 8:45 am. Thanks to Bob Silverman and Jeff Bakely, we have a great cue sheet that will lead us to Bob's favorite spot for tomato pie. The ride heads to Malvern via Paoli/Sugartown. Fairly hilly route, but with low-traffic roads and beautiful country scenery, including horse farms. There are two start locations. Terri will meet at the Italian Fountain at 7:45 am, with a departure at 8:00am SHARP to meet Bob's group at Narbeth Town Park. For folks who want to leave from Narbeth, Bob is meeting his group at 8:30, with the two groups departuring together at 8:45 am. Terri will lead a B pace; Bob the B- pace. Cue sheets provided from Narbeth to Malvern with the return to Narbeth. There will be no cue sheet from Italian Fountain to Narbeth, but group will stay together.

Sun June 27, 2010 - Adopt-A-Highway Road Cleanup and Canal Day Poker Run
Level C, 12 mph, 30 miles. first parking lot after crossing the covered bridge, on Yellow Springs Road, in Valley Forge National Historic Park. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. . If you care about clean roads to ride on, put this on your "to do" list. And, bring a friend. Please dedicate an hour to help us clean up a section of Yellow Springs Rd. We supply gloves and bags. All you have to do is show up and do a little walking and picking. Bring your bike and biking gear. After the clean-up, we will ride to the 28th Annual Schuylkill Canal Day Event at Lock 60 in Mont Clare for food and to take in the festivities. If you help with the clean-up you could win some cash. We will deal poker hands to the clean-up crew, during the ride (at stops, of course). Top three hands win $15,$10 & $5, respectively. Note: If you want to help with the clean-up and not ride, that's fine, too. I have to know who is coming. So, call or e-mail me by Saturday afternoon, if you want to join us.
