Level D/D+/C-, 8-12 mph, 12-17 miles. Formal entrance to the Azalea Garden behind the Art Museum, next to Italian Fountain. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Easy-paced evening jaunt for novice riders, newcomers to Philadelphia, and/or anyone in need of a gentle recovery ride. We'll ride on mostly flat roads, admiring some of Philadelphia's landmarks & attractive neighborhoods along the way. We'll adjust the route as needed to return before dark. Level B-, 13-15 mph, 49 miles. Flourtown picnic area of Fort Washington State Park, Mill Rd between Bethlehem Pike and Stenton Ave.. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. Starting the holiday weekend early? Let's revisit a popular, favorite route in eastern Montgomery County. Ride to Schwenksville via Ambler and Blue Bell. Stop for lunch at Moccia's Train Stop. There is also a convenience store on Route 29 after the lunch stop. Terrain is mostly rolling with some climbs, but we will stop to regroup as needed. Level B-, 13-14 mph, 65 miles. Conshohocken: Parking lot on Railroad Ave, just West of Harry Street. The ride leaves at 8:15 am. This ride goes through beautiful rural sections of Chester County. The terrain is rolling hills (pretty constant ups and downs) with a steeper climb or two. We will regroup at the top of hills as you wait for the ride leader (:. There are spectacular vistas, quiet roads along creeks and a sitdown meal on a deck overlooking a boulder strewn creek. There are actually 2 choices of fooderies with decks. Due to the extreme heat predicted for today, this ride will take place in the shade of Valley Green, on Forbidden Drive, along the Wissahickon Creek. The shade will make the temperature more comfortable, and the route is mostly flat. We will stay on Forbidden Drive. Mountain or hybrid bike (or road bike with wider tires) is preferable. If approaching Valley Green from the Roxborough side, take Wises Mill Rd (from Henry Ave.) downhill to the Inn. Level C/C+/B, 42-45+ miles. Gas Station/Dunkin Donuts on North Side Rte 73 at NJ side of Tacony Palmyra Bridge. The ride leaves at 6:15 am. Day Before the ACS Bike-a-thon -- Ride Back from Buena NJ. Level C/C+/B-, 13-15 mph, 42-45 miles. Meet at Gas station (Cumberland Farms??) & convenience store (Dunkin' Donuts) on left (north) side of Route 73, immediately aftercrossing the Tacony Palmyra Bridge at 6:15 am. This annual ride back to Phila. from the ACS Finish Line has become a tradition & treat, especially for anyone who is riding with a team in the ACS Bike-a-thon on the following day. We will meet at 6:15am in Palmyra, NJ, at the gas station-convenience store immediately past the Tacony Palmyra Bridge. The store will be on your left side after crossing the bridge. We'll drive down to the Buena Vista Camping Park, near Mays Landing, park our cars in the overnight (ACS) section, then cycle back. The distance of 42-45 miles is from Buena Vista to the NJ side of the Tacony Palmyra Bridge, only. We will have one or two rest stops. Terrain is flat, but shade is minimal, so please bring sunblock and plenty of fluids. Sun July 18, 2010 - Sunny Sunday D+ Training Ride Route Change....bring money and your bike locks
Level D, 7-12 mph, 10-20 miles. Formal entrance to the Azalea Garden, next to the Italian Fountain, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. We're going to try to stay in the shade as much as possible although it will still be a D+ training ride. We'll ride along MLK Drive then enter the Wissahickon Trail...along the creek...beautiful... up to Wissahickon Ave. We'll go down and cross Lincoln Drive with the first left at Rittenhouse St. We'll go up a long, gradual hill to the Urban Cafe where we can eat and drink. We'll make our way down Greene St. to Queen's Lane...riding around their residential streets (under the tree cover) then down Midvale. At the bottom of Midvale is the option to ride back UP Midvale...then back down again. I love Midvale. I think I do it about 6 mph. We'll talk about lane positioning and riding in traffic. Bring money and a lock for your bike. It is supposed to reach 100 degrees so bring lots of liquid for hydration. We'll take it at a D pace and be invigorated.

Level D/D+/C-, 8-12 mph, 12-17 miles. Old St. Mary's Church on the Penn campus, 39th & Locust Walk (Neighborhood Bike Works' "bicycle church"). The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Easy-paced evening jaunt for novice riders, and/or for anyone interested in a gentle recovery ride. We'll explore quiet side streets in University City and Center City West, adjusting the route as needed to return before dark. Please bring plenty of water with you, due to the predicted heat. Please contact the Leader with any questions, or if the weather is threatening. Ride is cancelled in the event of rain or storms. Wed July 28, 2010 - 45 Mile "Night Lights" Road Bike Ride: Flourtown to South Philly Outdoor Concert
Level C+ to B, 13-16 mph, 45 miles. Flourtown Shopping Center 1890 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, Pa. The ride leaves at 6:00 pm. Bike lights required. We'll ride down to South Philly to enjoy an 8pm outdoor concert by City Rhythm Orchestra at 2nd St. and Washington Ave (the concert is in the lot behind the Mummer's Museum). BCP will provide pizza and beverages to all BCP members who do this ride. Return to Flourtown by 11pm. Another 35 mile group will leave 6:30pm from the Conshohocken SEPTA lot under the bridge ( E. Elm St. and Harry St., Conshohocken,Pa.) and return by 10:30pm. Rain or threat of rain cancels the ride. No Q sheets.

Level C+, 13-14 mph, 52 miles. Fort Washington State Park Flourtown Picnic Area (see Weekly Rides for directions). The ride leaves at 8:00 am. Reprise of one of my favorite rides, with some new wrinkles due to a bridge closure. Rolling hills with a few, short, steeper climbs. At least half the ride is on bucolic, low-traffic roads. Food stop at Moccia's Ice Cream Junction (full menu). As Eliot Titcher says: "This is not a race, the idea is to have fun." If you want to race ahead and not regroup, please do the ride at another time. I'll be glad to send you the cue sheet and link to a map. Meet 7:45 for a PROMPT start. This ride is conjunction with SCU.

To CARVERSVILLE: A good forecast means get out of your heat induced funk and enjoy the day.. Basically, a repeat of the Spring ride with at least one minor detour in Doylestown. Nice roads, some shade, mostly rolling terrain with a couple of hills. Lunch at Carversville general store.
