But still, there's much to be done. Frequently likened to an urban Appalachian Trail, this remarkable trail has the potential to enhance the lives of millions of Americans for generations to come. • Breakaway Bikes and Fitness - Breakaway Bikes and Fitness, has a unique history. It started when Joe bought a pair of socks from Glenn before the Art Museum group ride more than a decade ago. Glenn Krotick was operating a “company” called Breakaway Fitness out of the back of his Ford Probe. It involved selling socks with the logo of three balls riding over a hill as one of the balls breaks away, even though Glenn’s aspiration was to build something bigger for the cycling community. At that time, Glenn was a spinning instructor and Joe had just completed his Masters from Temple where he focused on exercise science. Together, they dreamed of a more sophisticated, science-based training program geared toward cyclists. RPM was born. It took months for Joe to fine-tune his cycling program based on individual lactate threshold and customized optimal training zone derived from watts and heart rate (at the time 10 years ago, very few people knew about wattage training, Joe was a pioneer in that regard). The first RPM classes were held in borrowed spaces through local gym contacts where- and whenever there were open time slots. Both Joe and Glenn transported trainers in the trunk of their cars from gym to gym so that participants can train on their own bikes. Since those humble beginnings, Glenn and Joe have trained hundreds of athletes with various abilities. RPM has become known as a great way to stay in shape during the winter months within the cycling community, it would be hard to find a local group ride that did not have several people on it who have not taken an RPM class. Today, a state-of-the-art 1500sqft Center City facility on the second floor of BreakawayBikes (1923 Chestnut Street) is permanently devoted to RPM and performance training in general. The space utilizes 12 Computrainers linked to two plasma consuls from where coaches monitor riders’ progress and racers compete against each other.

  • Guy's Bicycles - Feasterville, PA - The Guy's Bicycles Advantage: Thinking of buying a new bicycle? One of your first choices, and not necessarily an easy one, will be where to shop. It can be a challenge because there are a myriad of stores that carry two-wheelers, from specialty retailers, to giant department stores, to backyard garage operations. Where you buy, however, has everything to do with what you get. You see, bicycles aren't like toasters or suitcases. Bikes are shipped in boxes and they must be assembled and tuned. There are many types, too, and you should never buy until you've figured out which is right for you. Measurements and adjustments are required to ensure the frame is the correct size and that the seat and handlebars are properly positioned. And, every new bicycle will need a minor tune-up after several weeks of use. What's more, modern road and mountain bikes can travel at high speeds and carry you over demanding terrain where the machine's materials and construction get tested. A quality two-wheeler, carefully assembled and fit to you, will be the safest, most durable and fun bicycle to ride. For these reasons, we strongly recommend shopping at a good specialty bicycle store in our area. For instance, we hire competent salespeople and expert mechanics who'll ensure that you get the right bike and a quality machine. Look for a store that's clean, has helpful personnel, offers a good selection, and an on-site repair department.

(In fact, we sell a Brooks leather saddle with titanium rails!) There have never been more great products for making bicycling better—baskets, bells, fenders, cyclocomputers, even tires are available in thousands of varieties. This can be overwhelming—and expensive if you get things that don't do what you want. At Trophy Bikes, we test these products, listen to hundreds of reports from our customers and friends, and use that knowledge to help you choose. We see bikes and tires, components and clothing when they're new—and years later. We learn how they work in the real world. Opinions, backed with experience, can make your biking better.
