Will try again next weekEnjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity.     Level B: 14.5mph, 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park, Betzwood Area (by rest rooms). The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Every Saturday through March, we will ride 17.5 miles to Kimberton Whole Food store in Kimberton, have an indoor coffee break, then ride 17.5 miles back to Valley Forge. Cue sheets will be available.     Level D: 10mph, 30 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Let's walk over the Bridge and leave your troubles behind. That's the Tacony Palmya Bridge, walkway to NJ across the Delaware River. Our route is up the River Wards of Philadelphia and the Estate side of Palmyra and Riverton, NJ. Coffee at the Orance Blossom Cafe. Return via the Ben Franklin Bridge, but first inspecting the progress of the pedestrian ramp on the Camden side of the bridge. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Levels A: 16-17mph, 40-55 miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 9:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing. Bring a snack for a brief mid-ride break. Consider the on-line routes approximate. Leave by 9:05 AM. Rain cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.     Sat January 19, 2019 - UDHS to HENNINGS in HARLEYSVILLE - CO-LEADER(S) WELCOME.

    Level B-: 14mph, 50 miles. Meet at Upper Dublin High School. The ride leaves at 9:15 am. RESCHEDULED from Sat, 1/5, IN HOPES OF DRY WEATHER. Scenic loop from Ft. Washington to the Food Court in Hennings Market in Harleysville. Outbound via North Wales, Lansdale, and Hatfield. Return from Harleysville via Evansburg, Center Square, and Flourtown. On the outbound segment, we have a quick rest stop if needed for bathroom and snack at mile 16 in Lansdale. Indoor lunch stop at Hennings at mile 28. On the return, we will pass a couple of parks with bathroom facilities or a porta-potty, if another quick break is needed. Total elevation gain is 2240 ft, no killer climbs. Most of the elevation is before the lunch stop. Plan is to return by 2:30 pm, due to the Travelogue meeting in Chestnut Hill this evening.     Sat January 19, 2019 - ANNUAL TRAVELOGUE MEETING - Indoor Social Event, NOT a ride. Event is ON for Saturday evening

    Meet at Springside Chestnut Hill Academy. The event starts at 6:00 pm. Yes, the event is still ON. MEMBERS’ TRAVELOGUE MEETING. ALL members are warmly welcome to attend this social gathering -- a presentation by several club members about their cycling tours & trips. We'll share photos and memories of bike trips, from around the USA and far corners of the world. These bike trip photos are scenic, intriguing, entertaining, and sometimes hilarious. If you have photos & stories of bike journeys you’d like to share with your cycling pals, please contact Linda McGrane by Saturday, January 12. If you can assemble your photos on a USB flash drive or a DVD and submit them in advance, this would be ideal. Vince Calkins will be the Technical Coordinator at the event, ensuring that your photos have been loaded properly and are ready for presentation. Each presentation should be no longer than 15-20 mins, with no more than 50 images. VENUE: Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 500 West Willow Grove Ave, Philadelphia (Chestnut Hill), 19118. We'll be meeting in the Haber Room, on the first floor of Wissahickon Hall. Wissahickon Hall is the large, stately, gray stone building directly across from the Philadelphia Cricket Club and tennis courts. Parking: there is a free parking lot immediately adjacent to Wissahickon Hall. If you click on the "tinyurl.com" link below, you will see a photo of the front of Wissahickon Hall. The entrance to the Haber Room is on the side of the building. We will post signs and white lights to direct you to the Haber Room. PUBLIC TRANSIT: Wissahickon Hall is 1-2 blocks from the St. Martin train station on Willow Grove Ave near Seminole St. REFRESHMENTS will be served. These rides will focus local neighborhoods around Philadelphia County and will include places like old buildings, historic places and murals. Easy rides for new riders to biking, with Safety Instructions and How To ride in a group. A no drop ride, with rest stops and re-group as needed. Helmet and Water a must. Bring your 29er, CX, Gravel or equip your road bike with wider tires as we mashup rides across various asphalt, gravel and sometimes dirt terrains. Expect a good challenge as we grind gravel trails and hit a few climbs with great company for no other purpose than to have fun and put in a few unpaved miles.

    Sun January 20, 2019 - Hike the Wissahickon

    Hike Moderate Pace on Strenuous Trails, 6-8 miles. Meet at Valley Green Inn. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us on a beautiful hike in the Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park. We will be hiking mainly on trails with some flat options. Well behaved dogs are welcome but they must remain leashed- even on the trails. The trails may be icy this time of year so consider bringing ice grippers for your shoes or boots. If you are parking on the Chestnut Hill side, across from the Valley Green Inn, park in the upper lot and do not leave any valuables in your car. It is optional, but you may preregister until Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10:00 pm.

    Level B-: 14mph, 32-36 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:20 pm. Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb. If weather is not bike-friendly, this ride may be replaced by snow activity. Keep moving throughout winter - maintain base fitness level for the return of spring cycling in March. Cue sheets will be available.

    Level C+: 13.5-14.5mph, 25-35 miles. Meet at Reynolds Dog Park, Longford Rd, Oaks, PA. The ride leaves at 6:30 pm. The nighttime Phoenixville Dog rides will continue until daylight savings time begins. A strong headlight and taillight are required. The rides are on low traffic roads and feature rolling to hilly terrain. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace over rolling to hilly terrain. Precipitation cancels. Ice on the road cancels. Temperatures below 15 degrees at the scheduled start time cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.

    Level B-: 14mph, 15 miles. Meet at Planet Fitness 2641 E. York St at Aramingo Ave, Port Richmond. The ride leaves at 5:15 pm. Easy, flat ride to and from the monthly newsletter mailing party at Tom Witt's office downtown. We'll help the crew prepare the February Quick Release for mailing. Light refreshments will be served. LIGHTS and LOCKS are mandatory - we will be locking our bikes outside the building. Meet at the Planet Fitness on East York St near Aramingo Ave, in the Port Richmond neighborhood. It is optional, but you may preregister until Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at 3:00 pm.
