    Fri November 22, 2019 - Friday Frolic w/Linda. Wentz Run Park to Perky Joe's Cafe in Harleysville

    Level B-: 14mph, 41 miles. Meet at Wentz Run Park, Wentz Rd & Anvil Lane . The ride leaves at 9:45 am. FOR 11/22: Pretty loop fron Wentz Run Park in Whitpain to Perky Joe's Cafe in Harleysville. Outbound via Indian Creek and Vernfield, return via Perkiomen Creek and Evansburg State Park. Cafe stop is at mile 19. After the cafe, we can stop at Landis Market at mile 20 to stock up on water, Gatorade, etc., for the return ride. Total climbing is 2567 ft. Rolling terrain, with two major climbs. Towards the end of the ride, there is a Wawa at mile 36, if another snack break is needed. GENERIC DESCRIPTION: Enjoy scenic adventures by bike on most Fridays, throughout the year. Explore pretty, peaceful roads in suburban counties -- Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, etc. Starting points will vary, so that we can cycle through different regions. Please check daily calendar for details of each Friday's route -- terrain, mileage, rest stops, etc. Cue sheets and on-line route map provided for each ride. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. As long as we are enjoying outdoor exercise, and Mother Nature, in the company of friends, we'll have a memorable outing. Cue sheets will be available.     Levels A: 18mph, 40-55 miles. Meet at Main Line Cycles front of shop 919 Montgomery Ave. The ride leaves at 8:05 am. Great roads with low traffic. We have a few routes that bring us out around or through Ridley Creek State Park. Average speed will be 16-17 mph, but note that these routes include over 4000' of climbing. Bring a snack for a brief mid-ride break. Consider the on-line routes approximate. Leave by 8:05 AM. Rain cancels. Cue sheets will not be available.     Sat November 23, 2019 - Early Bird Ride to Coffee in Ambler: Phila. Half-Marathon Edition (ad-hoc ride)

    Level B/B-: 14.5-15mph, 50 +/- miles. Meet at Italian Fountain behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 8:15 am. Assemble at 8:15. Depart at 8:20 SHARP! Marathon starts at 7:30, so we should cross Kelly Drive before even the fastest runners approach the Art Museum finish line, and by the time we return, Marathon should be over. But if you are driving to the start, plan accordingly. Ride through East Falls, Wyndmoor, Oreland, Fort Washington, Upper Dublin, Ambler, Flourtown, Manayunk, and Bala Cynwyd. Several hills but no killers. 35-minute coffee stop at Abyss in Ambler (It's all about the coffee!). Will regroup at top of hills if necessary, but riders are expected to maintain posted speed (what our computers read upon ride completion). PLEASE PREREGISTER: saves time; ensures that I will be able to read important emergency info; and no problem if you change your mind and don't show up since we will not be waiting past the posted departure time. These rides will focus local neighborhoods around Philadelphia County and will include places like old buildings, historic places and murals. Easy rides for new riders to biking, with Safety Instructions and How To ride in a group. A no drop ride with rest stops and re-group as needed. Helmet and Water a must. Once over the Ben Franklin Bridge, we head over to E Atlantic Ave and then Laurel Rd. We will find a different route home. Cue sheets will not be available.     Sat November 23, 2019 - Winter Bee - Ambler - Bulldog Park Start

    Level B: 14.5-15.5mph, 40 - 60 miles. Meet at Bulldog Statue, 25th St. and Pennsylvania Ave.. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Winter B ride with longer rides when warmer, shorter rides when colder. Total elevation 2500 - 3500 ft. The average speed (measured at end of ride) is likely to be 14.5 - 15.5 mph. We will regroup as needed, but riders are expected to ride the group pace. There will be a midway coffee/food stop. Start point for this week is Bulldog Park (Fairmount/25th/Pennsylvania Ave). Ride to Ambler for coffee at Abyss. We're heading north to avoid the1/2 marathon. This could make things difficult if you are driving to this ride. Ride may be cancelled up to an hour before ride time. Cue sheets will not be available.     Sat November 23, 2019 - South Jersey (Salem County) Flatland Adventure. TWO LEADERS, TWO PACES

    Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 14-15mph, 68 (or 57 short-cut) miles. Meet at Fort Mott State Park, 454 Fort Mott Rd, Pennsville, NJ 08070 GPS: DMS 39° 36’ 09.80 ” N 75° 32' 55.39. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Joke in progress: Ride Leader walks into a bar. Bartender asks, "How about a FLAT ride for a change?" Still working on the punchline..... This scenic loop, near Delaware Bay, will take us on quiet, country roads through farmlands, marshlands, & across peaceful creeks and rivers. Terrain is very gentle -- mostly flat, with a couple of small climbs, but these are less than 150 ft each. Total elevation gain is 1100 ft. This route has been extended beyond the route we did last year - this year's route will venture down to the inlet and marina on the Cohansey River. Rest stops at mile 23 (Alloway), mile 38 (Greenwich), and mile 54 (Hancock's Bridge). SHORT-CUT OPTION: There will be a self-guided short-cut for those wanting to ride ~57 miles. The shorter version will not go down to Greenwich or the inlet, but will have two rest stops at Alloway and Hancock's Bridge. Directions to the starting point at Fort Mott: I-295 South in NJ to Exit 1/NJ-49 E - Broadway for Pennsville/Salem. After 4 miles on NJ-49E/Broadway, turn right onto Fort Mott Rd, and stay on this road for 3.5 miles, til you get to the Bay. Entrance to the State Park will be on your right. From Center City Phila., drive time is LESS THAN ONE HOUR. Carpooling: Leader will be in parking lot of Conklin Playground, 15 E. Church Rd, Elkins Park, at 7:30am. Conklin is half a block below Cottman Ave/Township Line/PA-73 & Church Rd. If you'd like to car-pool, please contact Leader.     Sun November 24, 2019 - Hike the Wissahickon

    Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6-8 miles. Meet at Walnut Lane Golf Club. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Please join us on a hike in the beautiful Wissahickon Gorge of Fairmount Park. We will be hiking mainly on trails with some flat options. If you are not familiar with the trails in the southern part of the park, be prepared to do the entire hike as it will be more difficult to direct you back to the start. Hiking shoes or boots are recommended as is bringing water and a snack. Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but they must be leashed at all times, even on the trails. It is optional, but you may preregister until Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 10:00 pm.

    Level B-/C+: 13.5-14mph, 35 miles. Meet at Valley Forge National Park - Betzwood Picnic Area (by bathrooms). The ride leaves at 9:30 am. This ride may be pushed up to Saturday, 11/23 for better weather. Check beck here by 6 pm Friday 11/22 Join us for the well known "Valley Forge Winter route" on Sunday, . Fairly hilly in front half of ride, easy second half. 1925 ft climb. Moderate pace, We will stop for Coffee in Phoenixville on way back in to Betzwood. No Drops but should be able to ride at stated pace. Check back here for weather cancellations. Temps below 35 or rain will cancel the ride. Cue sheets will be available.     Sun November 24, 2019 - Sunday Afternoon (Post-Hike) Winter Ramble Ride (General description -- specific details will be posted for each Sunday) DEFERRED FOR 11/24, due to special Pre-Thanksgiving charity turkey ride. This ride will resume next week, Dec. 1

    Level B-: 14mph, 35-40 miles. Meet at Bruno's, Northwestern and Germantown Aves. The ride leaves at 1:20 pm. DEFERRED for 11/24 - Leader will be doing a special Pre-Thanksgiving charity Turkey Ride, helping to distribute holiday turkeys to food pantries. This ride will resume next week, Dec. 1. Scenic loop, usually thru Montgomery Co. or Lower Bucks, with brief rest stop. Unless otherwise stated, meet most Sundays at Bruno's (finishing point for many of the Sunday AM Wissahickon hikes). Occasionally meet at another location in Chestnut Hill. Plan to return by 5:00pm. Please bring LIGHTS. Specific details posted for week. Every Sunday throughout winter (during hiking season), weather permitting, EXCEPT 2nd Sun in Feb. If weather is not bike-friendly, this ride may be replaced by snow activity. Lights are required. No one dropped, but please be prepared to ride the advertised pace. Temperatures below 20 degrees cancels. Precipitation cancels. Snow and ice on the route cancels.     Sat November 30, 2019 - Newark, DE to Turkey Point Lighthouse Adventure. TWO LEADERS, TWO PACES

    Levels A-/B+: 16-17mph, B-: 14mph, 59 miles. Meet at Parking lot of the Newark & Pomeroy Rail Trail, near Bike Line & Ski Bum stores, next to the Newark Shopping Center on Main St. . The ride leaves at 9:00 am. In honor of Thanksgiving turkey, this ride is a revival of the late Peter Odell's classic route to the Turkey Point Lighthouse, on the scenic and peaceful peninsula between the Elk River and the North East River, at the head of the Chesapeake Bay. Mostly quiet roads in northwestern Delaware and northeastern Maryland. Rest stop at mile 18.5, in the cute town of Northeast, MD. ScenicTurkey Point Lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula is at mile 31.5. (The Lighthouse Trail runs right along the perimeter of the peninsula.) On the return, we have a rest stop at a market/deli at mile 45. Total elevation gain is 3986 feet. Mostly rolling terrain, with some steep climbs (up-down-up-down) close to the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. We will stop to regroup as needed. Travel time from Philadelphia to Newark is ~one hour. Driving Directions from Philadelphia: I-95 South into DE, then DE-273 West toward Newark/Univ. of DE. DE-273 will lead you to Main St. The Newark Shopping Center, the Rail Trail parking lot, and Bike Line & Ski Bum stores will be on your right. TWO LEADERS, TWO PACES: Dan Operacz will lead a group at 16-17, and Linda will lead at 14-16. Thank you, Dan! Cue sheets will be available.
