Sun December 10, 2023 - Sunday AM Hike in the Wissahickon, on the Andorra side. Hopefully, Better Weather on 12/10
Hike Moderate Pace on Moderate Trails, 6.1 miles. Meet at Scott House at Wigard & Henry Ave.. The hike leaves at 9:30 am. Pretty hike leaving from and returning to the Scout House, on Wigard Ave, just off Henry Ave. Hike north on the Yellow Trail to Bells Mill Rd, then return on Forbidden Drive. There are porta-potties at Bells Mill Rd. On the return, we'll pass the Covered Bridge, and we should be able to see the statue of Teedyuscung on the other side of the Wissahickon. If the weather turns wet before we get back, route will be shortened. The route can also be modified to stay on Forbidden Drive, both up and back. Please bring water and snacks with you, and please wear sturdy walking/hiking shoes. Hiking poles are not mandatory, but they are very helpful to give more traction. PARKING at the Start/Finish: there is a gravel parking lot at the Scout House, where Wigard Ave meets the trailhead. Sun December 10, 2023 - Sunny Sunday Afternoon D Ride
Level D: 9mph, 15 - 25 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 12:00 pm. Come join us for a leasurely brisk social bicycle ride in and around Fairmount Park. We will have a refreshment stop along the way. If KYW is reporting rain, snow, or icy road conditions outside their studio one hour prior to start, ride cancels. Cue sheets will not be available. If weather conditions are not conducive to cycling, this ride may be replaced by a hike/walk, or snow activity. Level D: 9mph, 40 miles. Meet at Azalea Garden's formal entrance, behind the Art Museum. The ride leaves at 9:00 am. Leader needs a new pair of shoes! A few Wednesdays ago, our Wednesday ride went to the Berlin Mart. There I noticed a shoe sale stahl. There were some all season hardy shoes that I could even wear as dress shoes. Let's return. There is a coffee shop just across the isle from an on the premises! We will take the PATCO Highspeed Line over to Broadway. From there cycle to Haddon Heights for a coffee break then on to Clementon Park and Berlin. A different route home but pushing our bikes up the three flights of stairs to reach the north walkway of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Sat December 16, 2023 - Pennypack and K&T Trails with lunch at Oba Mediterranean Grill
Level D: 11.5mph, 29 miles. Meet at 30th Street Station. The ride leaves at 9:30 am. This multi-modal ride will begin at 30th St Station - gather at the Septa Regional Rail area to board the 9:47 am West Trenton Line Train #8320 to Meadowbrook. The first part of the ride will feature two trails including short break at De Jesus bodega. Lunch stop will be at Oba Mediterranean Grill in Collingswood. Return to Philly expected by 3:30 pm via Patco. NOTE: The Montco section of the Pennypack Trail has about 5 miles of crushed gravel so have appropriate tires. Please wear helmet (required by the club.). Please bring extra tube and tools to fix a flat, water, proper dress for cold weather, $ for mid-ride snack stop. There might be a hill or two, but we will catch our breaths at the top. This is good for physical conditioning. At out snack stop, we can review best practices for riding though the winter.
